McLuhan the prophet

"In the mid-sixties, McLuhan presaged that TV would prompt politicians to become entertainers as style and image dwarfed substance, while 'the news' turned into an entertainment package. McLuhan noted that 'a four-year stint in the White House is no longer easily distinguishable from something arranged by a booking agency.'"

What a genius. More to Come.

Brooke,

Yes, you and Mcluhan made a good point that our news is more entertainment based than what its real purpose was supposed to be, to inform. I thought that was a really important point about how technology can influence the postmodern generation.

Absolutely. I mean, if you turn on the television it is like something important is turned into a joke sometimes, just to keep people interested. Perhaps it is just a way of getting people interested because most may be boring to the ones who take it too seriously. That is a something I can definitely agree with.
